Our story

1st Annual Harris Health System LVN Conference

Being a nurse means a lifetime of learning. It is our responsibility to stay on top of a quickly changing healthcare environment. Advances in education, medication, technology, and research coupled with our patients’ access to information about their illnesses means we must always be learning. There is no greater opportunity for exposure to new ideas than attending a nursing conference.

On June 22, 2018 the first Harris Health System LVN conference: Theme: “Empowering LVN Practice” convened at the United Way.  115 people were in attendance (Harris Health employees, LVN nursing students and non-Harris Health LVNs from Methodist Willowbrook and Kelsey Seybold).

The goal of the conference is to enhance LVN knowledge related to effective communication, nursing documentation, and cultural diversity in the clinical environment. By integrating the evidence–based information, nurses will be able to improve patient care and their professional practice. The LVN conference summer theme focused on the following hot topics: Stay under your Scope of Practice, Life Guard Your Career, Legal Documentation, Cultural Diversity, Diabetes and LVN Certification.  Attendees received 4 CEUs for attending the workshop.

Acknowledgements  to the Harris County Hospital District Foundation for taking the leading role in the LVN Conference electronic registration process, reimbursement of conference expenses, special reports and updates regarding  number of registrants and finances, reimbursement process for conference expenses and the donation of several items that was included in the registration bags presented to attendees and speakers.
