2017-2018 was a big year for the Harris County Hospital District Foundation (HCHD Foundation) – it’s our 25th Anniversary! This year has been a reflection on how far our HCHD Foundation has come, the many friends it made over the years, and the relationships it has built with supporters.

the patients served while, at the same time, raising funds targeted for a specific Harris Health System program or service. The HCHD Foundation also solicits funding through grants, capital campaigns, and endowments to support the aforementioned fundraising initiatives.

We would like to honor our founders Mr. Elvin Franklin, Jr. and Barbara Schachtel, Ph.D., and the first chairman, Mr. Quentin R. Mease for their vision to create a foundation to operate as a charitable entity solely for the benefit of Harris Health System and all of the residents of Harris County. In addition, thank you to the supporting visionaries – Dorothy Caram, Ph.D., Mr. Marc Shapiro, Judge Jon Lindsay, Harris County Commissioners Court and others who made the vision a reality.

The HCHD Foundation, a charitable 501(c) (3) organization, was founded in 1992 to raise funds and awareness in support of the Harris Health System. The HCHD Foundation makes grants to the Harris Health System that focus on improving the lives of all residents of Harris County, including the uninsured and underinsured.

Since 1992, the HCHD Foundation has raised and granted in excess of $47 million to the Harris Health

A huge thank you to our incredible supporters –
your loyalty and trust in us throughout the years allows us to push our boundaries and challenges us to strive for excellence in all that we do.

Other notable successes of the HCHD Foundation through its fundraising efforts, which are beneficial to the residents of Harris County and the patients of Harris Health System are: Trouble Shooters Mobile Immunization Program, Mobile Mammography Program, Mobile Dental Program, Professional Advancement for Nurses, LBJ and Ben Taub Hospital Playgrounds, Smith Clinic Capital Campaign, and the successful 2017 Annual Jubilee of Caring Celebration honoring Barbara and Corby Robertson with the Ben Taub Humanitarian award, to name a few.

The HCHD Foundation was able to expand its philanthropic efforts after receiving a number of generous donations to the HCHD Foundation’s Harris Health System Employee Disaster Relief Fund. Those generous donations allowed the HCHD Foundation to grant funds to Harris Health System employees who experienced devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey.

System programs and services, funded Harris Health’s pilot programs, facility enhancements, and other projects of Harris Health System and the Harris County community. In collaboration, HCHD Foundation and Harris Health System have shared some impressive successes.

To achieve these successes, the HCHD Foundation created and sponsored over the years a number of annual events in the community: golf tournaments, gala/dinners, silver teas, Mallets and Medicine (polo), lecture series, Hank Cole luncheon, and the TexasMedRun. These events were presented to the community with the goal of raising community awareness about the HCHD Foundation, Harris Health System,

A huge thank you to our incredible supporters – your loyalty and trust in us throughout the years allows us to push our boundaries, and challenges us to strive for excellence in all that we do.

The HCHD Foundation would not have been possible for the first 25 years to where we stand today without the amazing past and present Board of Trustees volunteering their time and expertise. We are incredibly thankful for the hard work and dedication from our Foundation staff and are so appreciative to be able to work with each of them every day. This milestone would not be possible without them.
