Dr. Michael Gardner to Lead Harris Health Ambulatory Care Services

A Letter from Harris Health CEO:

Today, Harris Health System welcomes back Dr. Michael Gardner to his new role as the system’s executive vice president and administrator for Ambulatory Care Services. Dr. Gardner first worked with Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) and Harris Health System from 1999 to 2005 as Harris Health’s director of medical quality, serving concurrently as associate professor, Maternal Fetal Medicine, BCM, and director, Obstetrics, Ben Taub Hospital.

In the intervening 10 years, Dr. Gardner has held leadership and clinical academic positions at Emory University / Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia; Oklahoma University / Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, California.

Dr. Gardner brings unique knowledge and experience having previously worked with Harris Health and an impressive résumé of experiences with other public, academic and private institutions from across the country. His leadership will be essential to helping Harris Health sustain its success in delivering primary and outpatient care to meet the needs of the residents of Harris County.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Gardner served as a major in the United States Air Force Medical Service as an obstetrician and gynecologist from 1989-1993, and as assistant professor, Maternal Fetal Medicine, University of New Mexico from 1995-1999.

He is a licensed physician in Alabama, Arizona, California, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. He received his medical degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, a master’s degree in public health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a master’s degree in medical management from the University of Southern California.
