Honoring Lester and Sue Smith

The Harris County Hospital District Foundation friends and supporters will gather at the Royal Sonesta for the Jubilee of Caring on Thursday, November 19, 2015 to present Sue and Lester Smith with the Ben Taub Humanitarian Award.

The Harris County Hospital District Foundation plays an essential role in the public-private partnership that has been serving Harris Health System for 23 years. The Ben Taub Humanitarian Award was established in 2000. It honors those who have given of both time and funds to shape Houston and Harris County as a better place for all to live. We are pleased this year our friends, Lester and Sue Smith will be the honorees for the prestigious Ben Taub Humanitarian Award. It will be presented at the Foundation’s fall gala, The Jubilee of Caring. Proceeds from this prestigious event will benefit cancer care and cancer treatment for the residents of Harris County.

In 2011, the Harris County Hospital District Foundation received a significant donation from Sue and Lester Smith to construct an outpatient clinic designed exclusively for patients requiring specialty care. The Harris Health System’s Smith Clinic includes the Smith Breast Center, Smith Infusion Therapy Clinic, Smith Diagnostic Imaging Department, and Smith Oncology Clinic, all having state-of-the-art equipment.

The Smiths’ are the ninth recipients to receive this prestigious award. Past honorees include: Ginni and Richard Mithoff, Dr. Michael E. DeBakey and J. Evans Attwell, Ned Holmes, Ben Love, Mayor Robert Lanier, Gerald Hines, and Sidney & Don Faust.

OUR ESSENTIAL ROLE as a charitable organization is to benefit of Harris Health System with funds for programs to enhance their mission in the community.
