The HCHD Foundation donated a new van to the Troubleshooting for Health Program. This is the Harris Health System immunization outreach program.  In 2012 Troubleshooting for Health administered 21,364 immunizations free of charge to 7,000 low-income children. Ruth Ransom is celebrating her one-year anniversary with HCHD Foundation in September, and we are thrilled to have her as part of our team. Prior to arriving at the Foundation, Ruth served in a variety of professional and volunteer roles in Houston for over thirty years. These roles included, CFO of MetroCorp Bancshares and Vice President of JPMorgan Chase Bank, Treasurer and Trustee of the Board of Trustees of the Awty International School, volunteer-Alley Theatre, Boy Scouts, and the Houston Live Stock Show….

Members of the Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® board of trustees and grants committee visited the Harris Health System in April. The HCHD Foundation has been receiving grants from Komen for almost 20 years. This funding has been instrumental in enhancing the mammography screening and diagnostic services in the Harris Health System. Marcy and Tom Wessel generously opened their lovely home to host the Harris County Hospital District Foundation’s Eleventh Annual Silver Tea on May 10th. The Silver Tea raises funds in support of the Harris County Hospital District’s nursing staff. Proceeds from the event benefit the Nursing Leadership Fund, which provides assistance for nursing continuing education as well as for nursing research initiatives conducted and coordinated by the Hospital District’s professional nurses. Dr. Mattox presented with flags in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. On September 11, 2011, U.S. Army Captain Robin Riggs, RN, presented Foundation Trustee & Ben Taub General Hospital Chief of Staff Dr. Kenneth L. Mattox with American flags flown over Iraq and Afghanistan during combat operations. The flags were presented to Dr. Mattox to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
