Dr. Mattox presented with flags in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

On September 11, 2011, U.S. Army Captain Robin Riggs, RN, presented Foundation Trustee & Ben Taub General Hospital Chief of Staff Dr. Kenneth L. Mattox with American flags flown over Iraq and Afghanistan during combat operations.

The flags were presented to Dr. Mattox to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

The flag flown in Afghanistan, pictured, was raised in the face of hostile fire.

The other flag was flown in Iraq by Thomas Granchi, MD.

Dr. Granchi and Capt. Riggs, a former Ben Taub General Hospital ICU nurse, were trained by Dr. Mattox.

The flags will tour Harris County Hospital District facilities and then be placed on permanent display at Ben Taub General Hospital.
