Creating public-private partnerships takes many shapes and forms. A couple of years ago, Ellen Martin, Harris Health System Sr. Patient Liaison, approached the HCHD Foundation with the idea of building a Horticultural Therapy Garden at the Harris Health System Quentin Mease (QM) Community Hospital. With funding procured by the HCHD Foundation, the Horticultural Therapy Garden was officially opened last fall.
Michael Segal, another Sr. Patient Liaison who attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the QM garden, was inspired and decided to help the Harris Health System build a healing garden at the Ben Taub General Hospital (BTGH). The Foundation worked with Michael who interceded with the Stanford and Joan Alexander Foundation on behalf of our grant application. Thanks to Michael’s goodwill ambassadorship we were given a grant towards the construction of a healing garden at the BTGH.
