Ruth Ransom is celebrating her one-year anniversary with HCHD Foundation in September, and we are thrilled to have her as part of our team. Prior to arriving at the Foundation, Ruth served in a variety of professional and volunteer roles in Houston for over thirty years. These roles included, CFO of MetroCorp Bancshares and Vice President of JPMorgan Chase Bank, Treasurer and Trustee of the Board of Trustees of the Awty International School, volunteer-Alley Theatre, Boy Scouts, and the Houston Live Stock Show….

Members of the Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® board of trustees and grants committee visited the Harris Health System in April. The HCHD Foundation has been receiving grants from Komen for almost 20 years. This funding has been instrumental in enhancing the mammography screening and diagnostic services in the Harris Health System. The graphic below shows the volume of mammography services provided by the Harris Health System in the last 10 years.  

Kevin Rafferty, together with his bank colleagues, Community Banking Director –  Rudy Beeching, and Public Relations Director Lori Chase, presented a golf cart to Casa de Amigos Director Clarita Oliver, RN, who was joined by the HCHD Foundation’s Executive Director Ruth Ransom and Board Co-President, Denis DeBakey.

Marcy and Tom Wessel generously opened their lovely home to host the Harris County Hospital District Foundation’s Eleventh Annual Silver Tea on May 10th. The Silver Tea raises funds in support of the Harris County Hospital District’s nursing staff. Proceeds from the event benefit the Nursing Leadership Fund, which provides assistance for nursing continuing education as well as for nursing research initiatives conducted and coordinated by the Hospital District’s professional nurses.

Dr. Mattox presented with flags in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. On September 11, 2011, U.S. Army Captain Robin Riggs, RN, presented Foundation Trustee & Ben Taub General Hospital Chief of Staff Dr. Kenneth L. Mattox with American flags flown over Iraq and Afghanistan during combat operations. The flags were presented to Dr. Mattox to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The Harris County Hospital District is modernizing and upgrading its facilities to meet and expand our community’s needs.
