The HCHD Foundation is joining the world of Crowdfunding!  For those new to the concept, crowdfunding is the practice of funding a project by raising online monetary contributions from a large number of people. In 2015, it was estimated that worldwide over $34 billion has been raised this way.

On November 22, the Foundation will initiate participation in the CrowdRise Holiday Charity Challenge, an annual fundraising competition that runs from November 22nd through January 5th and includes a massive push on #GivingTuesday.

Simply go online to https://www.crowdrise.com/HarrisCountyHospitalDistrictFoundation. The benefiting program will be Harris Health System’s Child Life CAPES.

CAPES, Children of Adult Patients Experiencing Stressors, was created in 2013 by MD Anderson oncologist, Dr. Alyssa G. Rieber, who works with cancer patients at LBJ Hospital. Dr. Rieber noted the difficulty children experience when a parent is extremely ill with cancer. She saw a great need for psychosocial services to play an integral and vital role within a multidisciplinary treatment plan. The program maximizes a family’s ability to cope with stressors which impact their lives by empowering, preparing, and providing patients and their family members with the tools needed to assist children through medical experiences. CAPES provides evidence-based psychosocial support directly to children to enhance and enrich their knowledge and emotional well-being.

For #GivingTuesday, November 29th, there will be a special one-day additional challenge. To rally supporters to raise crazy amounts of money, each donation is a brick in a virtual tower and collectively, we’ll build the world’s largest building…the CrowdRise Giving Tower. Also on November 29, users can experience the Giving Tower by downloading a free app that will take them into a virtual reality city filled with iconic buildings with the Giving Tower as the centerpiece. What’s even more incredible is that the organization that raises the most online on #GivingTuesday will receive a $25,000 donation to their cause. (We hope it’s us!)

Once #GivingTuesday is over, we will continue to rally our supporters to raise as much money as possible for the Child Life CAPES program through January 5th, 2017. Every charity keeps the money they raise and the top five charities who raise the most online throughout the entire Challenge timeframe will win large cash donations.

We hope you will join HCHD Foundation in the crowdfunding craze. We invite you to be one of the many individuals building the Crowdrise Giving Tower and supporting the Child Life CAPES program at LBJ Hospital, Ben Taub Hospital and Smith Clinic. Let the crowdfunding begin!
