2014 Jubilee of Caring

Benefiting Excellence in Cancer Care Centers at Harris Health

Harris County Hospital District Foundation celebrated its Jubilee of Caring gala on Oct10th with the eighth presentation of the Ben Taub Humanitarian Award.
The honorees were long-time Houston philanthropists Don and Sidney Faust. Over the years the Fausts have been supporters of Texas Children’s Hospital Cancer Center, Baylor College of Medicine, Harris Health System, and other Texas Medical Center institutions. They established a program of regular retreats for young TCH cancer patients and their families at Squirrel Creek, the Faust family ranch in west Texas.

The Squirrel Creek cancer retreats mean so much to Don and me. Seeing the good it does for the families who have a child stricken with cancer gives us a purpose-filled life.” She continued, “Don and I are honored to receive the Award named after a great humanitarian, Mr. Ben Taub, who gave so generously to Houston.”-Sidney Faust

Emceed by television personality Lisa Malosky, the 2013 gala featured presentations by Dr. Kenneth Mattox, Baylor Distinguished Service Professor and Chief of Staff at Ben Taub General Hospital, Dr. David Poplack, Director of Texas Children’s Hospital Cancer Center, and County Judge Ed Emmett, who presented a County Proclamation declaring October 10th Don and Sidney Faust Day throughout the County. A video presentation profiled the work of Chief of Medical Oncology, Department of General Oncology, Division of Cancer Medicine, Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital, Dr. Alyssa Rieber. Dr. Rieber is also a cancer survivor.

Entertainment was provided by Grammy-nominated recording artist Tamar Davis and musicians from the Richard Brown Orchestra. The 2013 Jubilee of Caring was organized by Jubilee of Caring volunteer chairs, Lavonne Cox, Debby Leighton, and Mary Ann McKeithan.
