Newborns are a Symbol of New Beginnings

Newborns are a Symbol of New Beginnings

A group of volunteers from AT&T Pioneers, a volunteer organization within AT&T, came last month to assemble 100 baskets for the New Beginnings project.
This is a team effort between the HCHD Foundation and the Harris Health System Community Involvement Department. Baskets are given to low-income mothers that deliver their babies in Harris Health System hospitals.

Thanks to the generosity of the Bollinger family and SCRUBS -our young professional group of supporters-, we have been able to provide funding for these baskets with baby care items such as: diapers, infant gowns, onesies, rattles, nail clipper, digital thermometer, diaper cream, and baby wash.

The vision of the New Beginnings project is to promote a safe place for newborns to decrease the possibility of child abuse. This project has been going strong for six years, and we look forward to bringing smiles to many more patients with the delivery of their baby basket.”
-Heather Rojas,
Harris Health Community Involvement Manager

Every year, 50 to 100 baskets are distributed by Social Workers and Child Life Specialists; they identify the mothers that are in a precarious situation needing additional assistance to care for their new babies.
