Living Photography for Health

Living Photography for Health

The Foundation started the year with a very successful Living Photography contest sponsored by JP Morgan Chase, Wholefoods, Camera Exchange, and Deborah Colton Gallery.

We took our annual in-house photography contest to the community to include not only amateur photographers, but also local professionals. The contest had 152 entries: 55 landscapes, 45 animals, 17 healthy foods, and 35 favorite places.

The panel of judges included: Gina Gaston -ABC News-, Sam Gainer -professional photographer-, Ryan McCauley –JP Morgan Chase-, and Ron Johnson –Former Harris Health System VP of Planning & Facilities.

Photography was judged according to three categories of participants: student, amateur, and professional.

The judges also gave an overall grand award, which included a $1,500 from Houston Camera Exchange and one-month exhibit at Deborah Colton Gallery. The prize went to Madeline Hamilton for Frozen in Flight; an amazing photo of a humming bird, hovering in mid-air (featured image).

Madeline attends Memorial High School:

I love photography. When I go to work, probably after college, I hope to have a job where I can travel around and take photos, like maybe for National Geographic.” – Madeline Hamilton

Photographs from the Foundation Living Photography contest are used by the Harris Health System to décor its facilities; just this year 10 new health centers will have photographs on display from the Foundation Living Photography contest.
