Open enrollment for the Health Insurance Marketplace began Nov. 1, 2015 and runs through Jan. 31, 2016. Through the Marketplace, individuals can search and select healthcare coverage.
The best option to search and select an appropriate healthcare plan is through the Marketplace Web site www.healthcare.gov. The site is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and provides information on how the Marketplace works, what the benefits are and key deadlines. Enrollees can also call 800-318-2596 to speak with a trained customer service representative.
Harris Health System is helping, too. Teams of certified application counselors will be available Monday through Friday at five Harris Health eligibility center locations. Additionally, Harris Health will offer Marketplace enrollment assistance on Saturdays at select locations throughout the enrollment period. Harris Health currently accepts several major health insurance plans and managed care plans. To make the enrollment process easier, people attending the enrollment locations should provide or know the following information:
• Social Security numbers for themselves and every person who lives with them
• A working email address
• Prepare to complete an Employer Coverage Tool if they or someone in their household is eligible for insurance coverage through an employer
• Employment and income information for every person in their household
• Policy numbers for any current health insurance plans covering people who live in their home
