26 Years of Improving Lives

HARRIS COUNTY HOSPITAL DISTRICT FOUNDATION

improves lives

Mr. and Mrs. Bollinger along with daughter in-law, HCHD Foundation Operations Manager Carolyn Amos, and Harris Health Nurses.  Jocelyn’s New Beginnings is an infant care support program that provides baskets full of newborn essentials to new mothers at Harris Health System, ensuring that all mothers who need it receive tangible support to care for their newborn.

The Harris County Hospital District Foundation (HCHD Foundation), a charitable 50l(c) (3) organization, was founded in 1992 to support the Harris Health System. The HCHD Foundation makes grants to Harris Health that focus on improving the lives of Harris County patients through the incredible work Harris Health does every day through 3 Harris Health Hospitals: Ben Taub Hospital, Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital and Quentin Mease Hospital, 18 community health centers, 5 same day clinics, 5 school-based clinics and other facilities and activities.

Since 1992, the HCHD Foundation has raised and granted in excess of $47 million to Harris Health System programs and services. In collaboration, HCHD Foundation and Harris Health System have shared some impressive successes.

To achieve these successes since inception, the HCHD Foundation created and sponsored over the years a number of annual events in the community: gala dinners (Jubilee of Caring), silver teas, Mallets and Medicine (polo), lecture series, Hank Cole luncheon, golf tournaments, and the TexasMedRun.

These events raised community awareness about the Harris County Hospital District Foundation,  the Harris Health System, and the patients served, and raised funds for a specific Harris Health System program and service needs. The HCHD Foundation also solicits funding through grants, capital campaigns, and endowments to support the aforementioned fundraising initiatives.

Other notable successes of Harris County Hospital District Foundation through its fundraising efforts and beneficial to the residents of Harris County and patients of Harris Health System are:

Trouble Shooters Mobile Immunization Program, Mobile Mammography Program, Mobile Dental Program, Professional Advancement for Nurses, LBJ and Ben Taub Hospital Playgrounds, Smith Clinic Capital Campaign, and the successful 2017 Annual Jubilee of Caring Celebration honoring Barbara and Corby Robertson with the Ben Taub Humanitarian award, to name a few.

The HCHD Foundation was able to expand their philanthropic efforts after receiving a number of generous donations to the HCHD Foundation Harris Health Employee Disaster Relief Fund. Those generous donations allowed the HCHD Foundation to grant funds to Harris Health System employees who experienced devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey.

The HCHD Foundation’s efforts and support of Harris Health System has been possible due to the countless volunteer hours and vision of the amazing past and present Board of Trustees.

The Board of Trustees and staff of the HCHD Foundation look forward to continuing to work to honor our mission of supporting Harris Health’s program and services.
