Lester and Sue Smith and the Harris County Hospital District Foundation hosted its’ first cocktail reception on May 22, 2014 at the lovely home of the Smiths. Proceeds from the event support Harris Health Nurses by advancing their professional, management and leadership talents through education, training, research efforts, and skills development programs.
More than 80 representatives from the business community, Harris Health and HCHD Foundation Board members, philanthropists, supporters, and staff attended this successful event.
The cocktail reception provided a valuable networking opportunity. The event featured speakers who highlighted future changes in nursing now being engaged in broader ranges of health care responsibilities.
Today’s nurses aren’t just caring for the sick; they’re changing our very notion of modern medicine and health care delivery. Presentations from some of the honored guest nurse scholar recipients included their experiences caring for sick patients which has become increasingly more complicated.
Nurses are giving talks, publishing scientific research, developing mobile medical applications, and actively engaged in addressing health care policy. Harris Health nurses are collaborating with their colleagues, from social workers and oncologists to hospital administrators and public safety personnel. The advanced practice nursing field is growing, and so are opportunities for nurse practitioners, directors of forensic programs and PhD nurses, nurse educators, nurse-anesthetists, and nurse researchers.
The cocktail reception speakers were very well received by the large audience. On behalf of the HCHD Foundation Board of Trustees, we are most appreciative for the support of Lester and Sue Smith. We truly thank them for their support of HCHD Foundation and hosting this successful event.
