The Harris County Hospital District Foundation (HCHD Foundation), a charitable 501(c) (3) organization, was established in 1992 to raise funds and awareness in support of Harris Health System. The HCHD Foundation makes grants to Harris Health System that focus on improving the lives of the uninsured and underinsured residents of Harris County through the 3 Harris Health System hospitals: Ben Taub Hospital (with a Level I Trauma Center, the Ginni and Richard Mithoff Trauma Center), Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital and Quentin Mease Hospital, in addition to 19 community health centers, 6 same day clinics, 5 school based clinics and 5 specialty centers. Harris Health System provides excellent health care delivery with its partners, Baylor College of Medicine and UT Medical School.
Since 1992, the HCHD Foundation has raised and granted in excess of $45 million to the Harris Health System Programs and Services. The HCHD Foundation has funded Harris Health’s pilot programs, facility enhancements, and incentive programs to name a few. In partnership, HCHD Foundation and Harris Health System have shared some impressive successes.
To achieve these successes, the HCHD Foundation created and sponsored over the years a number of annual events in the community: golf tournaments, gala dinners, silver teas, and fun runs. These events target a special community population with the goal of raising community awareness about the Harris Health System, the patients served while, at the same time, raising funds targeted for a specific Harris Health System Program and Services funding need. The HCHD Foundation also solicits funding through grants, capital campaigns, and endowments to support the aforementioned fundraising initiatives.
The Harris County Hospital District Foundation is currently celebrating 25 years and hosted the 2017 Jubilee of Caring Gala benefitting Harris Health Ben Taub Hospital Level I Trauma Center (Ginni & Rich Mithoff) first floor renovation with an astounding fund raising support success of over $650,000.00. Other notable successes are: TroubleShooters Mobile Immunization Program, Mobile Mammography Program, Employee Disaster, Mobile Dental Program, Professional Advancement for Nurses, LBJ Hospital Playground, Smith Clinic Capital Campaign, and most recently, raised funds in support of Harris Health System employees who experienced devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey, to name a few.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our founders Elvin Franklin, Jr., Quentin R. Mease, and Barbara Schachtel, Ph.D. for their vision to create a foundation to operate as a charitable entity solely for the benefit of Harris Health System and the residents of Harris County who are patients of the Harris Health System. We would also like to thank the supporting visionaries of Harris County like Dorothy Caram, Ph.D., Marc Shapiro, Judge Jon Lindsay, Harris County Commissioners Court and others who made the vision a reality with twenty five successful years of reality and many more on the horizon.
The HCHD Foundation is committed to caring for our community through partnerships for all patients of Harris Health System. We believe the programs and services highlighted over the years are a testament to that philosophy and the generosity of all donors and supporters of HCHD Foundation. We hope you will take a moment to get to know the HCHD Foundation and all that we do. We encourage you to consider donating your time, treasures and talents in support of our efforts. With your support, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable residents of our community.
