Business Not as Usual

Business Not as Usual

Our Foundation said goodbye to a prominent and great community leader recently, Mr. H. Ben Taub, great nephew of Ben Taub, namesake of Ben Taub Hospital, which is part of the Harris Health System.

H. Ben Taub was a sincere, caring and private gentleman and was an integral part of Harris County Hospital District Foundation, not only as our past president, but also in all of the ways he contributed to the betterment of our city, too. His dedication is in the very fiber of this organization.”
-Ruth Ransom | Executive Director of HCHD Foundation.

H. Ben Taub was a soft spoken man of principal, tradition and ultimate manners. We were all impressed with his integrity, and his kindness. Like his great uncle, he gave people his full attention, and he treated everyone with the same candor and kindness.

H. Ben graduated from the University of Texas Austin, and joined his father Henry J. N. Taub and great uncle Ben Taub in managing the family business. He also founded and operated several other successful businesses. Active in other realms of commerce, H. Ben served on the Board of Directors of Texas Commerce Medical Bank. He was well known and respected as one of Houstonian’s active philanthropists and humanitarians, particularly in causes that supported children and medicine. This Taub – H. Ben – continued his family’s deep-rooted tradition of philanthropic activities in the community and generously supported numerous charitable organizations, various educational institutions, hospitals and libraries.

As exemplified by his extended tenures on various boards, Mr. Taub was known for his sense of duty and service. Mr. Taub served on the Board of Directors Baylor College of Medicine and was a member of the Investment Committee. Taking a personal interest with his commitment to the various foundations, he served as chairman of the Harris County Hospital District Foundation for twelve years, president of the Baylor Medical Foundation for sixteen years, trustee of the Taub Foundation, and the Pauline Sterne Wolff Memorial Foundation. Mr. Taub was also proud to serve on a variety of other organizations. In 2012, he was awarded the Mayors Volunteer Houston Lifetime Achievement Award.

One could tell he loved life and the outdoors from his dress and demeanor and he loved and cared about family and friends. He also adored his horses and polo. He was elected Southwestern Circuit Governor of the United States Polo Association from 1998-2008.

H. Ben is and will continue to be greatly missed by those who relied upon his steadfastness and his humor. We are honored to have worked with him, and will continue his family’s legacy caring of caring for those in our community.”
